MARKETSPILL WEEKLY · EVERY MONDAY

WSB vs. Insiders

The stocks r/wallstreetbets talked about most last week, lined up against what those companies' own insiders did with their shares. Every row comes from the Form 4s they filed in the past 90 days, and every filing is linked.

Editions

The first edition goes up late Sunday, Nov. 1, ET, in time for Monday's Daily Spill.

How the table works

Mentions. How often a ticker came up on r/wallstreetbets over seven days, added up from ApeWisdom's daily readings and set against the seven days before. A mention is attention, not a position: it counts the same whether a thread cheers the stock or mocks it.

Insider trades. Open-market buys and sales of common stock that a company's officers, directors and large holders reported on Form 4 over 90 days. Sales under pre-set 10b5-1 plans are counted and broken out. Shares sold the same day an option was exercised stay out of the totals and are noted under the table.

The label. Each row reads Insiders bought, Insiders sold, Mixed or Insiders quiet, from the filings alone. It describes what insiders did, not where the stock goes next.

What we leave out. ETFs and index funds, which have no insiders to line up; companies whose insiders do not file Form 4s; and forum shorthand that collides with a ticker, such as DTE for days to expiration.
